Q: How
can a Laser beam can remove hairs?
A: Hair grows from a bulb in the skin. Located a few
millimeters above it are the hair-generating cells. Both the
bulb and the hair-generating cells absorb the heat generated
by the infrared Laser beam. This localized heat, in turn,
destroys the two essential components for the growth of new
hair.
Q: What's so special about the LightSheer™ Laser?

Q: What does the treatment
include?
A: Safety is a priority at ATLANTIS LASER. A test
area will be chosen to try out the LightSheer™ Laser on the
client. We need to make sure that the side effects are
minimal. Further, during a treatment, both the client and
the practitioner will be wearing safety eyewear. The
practitioner will be moving a small hand piece that delivers
the Laser light over the client's skin. The procedure can be
10 minutes long for the chin or upper lip, 20 minutes for
the bikini line or underarms, or 40 minutes for the legs or
back. Unlike electrolysis, which treats one hair at a time,
each
Laser pulse affects 10-15 hairs. Large areas of skin can
thus be treated in a comparatively short period of time.

Q: What are the side effects to a LightSheer™ Laser
treatment?
A: The treated skin may become pink or red after a
while. This can last between a few hours to several days,
but easily resolved by applying ice or a cooling cream. On
occasion, the affected skin can turn darker or tighter.
Again, this is only a temporary side effect. Finally,
freckles and moles, touched by the Laser beam, can become
lighter or disappear completely.
Q: How many treatments are needed before I'm hair-free?
A: Hair grows in cycles. There is the anagen phase -
when the hair is actively growing, the catagen phase - when
the hair stops growing but is still attached to the skin,
and the telogen phase - when the hair falls out. The
LightSheer™ Laser affects the melanin at the base of the
hair follicle, which is at its highest concentration during
the anagen phase. For instance, on any given day, 70% of
facial hair is in the anagen phase, while the 70% of the
chest and back hair is in the telogen phase. The number of
treatments depend on the size of the area treated. Visits
every 6 to 8 weeks are the best. It may take up to a year
before a given area is considered hair-free forever.
Q: Is it safe?
A: Laser hair removal has been around for several
years. Numerous clinical studies have been done to prove
that it is safe. Many thousands of people from all over the
world have used Laser technology to remove unwanted hair.
The FDA (US Food and Drug Administration, known for its
stringent criteria) has approved the LightSheer™ Laser. The
infrared beam, set at 800 nm, is considered the safest Laser
beam, while giving the best results.
Q: Does it hurt?
A: Not really, but certain areas of the skin are more
sensitive. The LightSheer™ Laser is much less painful than
other methods of hair removal: waxing comes to mind;
chemical depilatories too, if left on the skin for too long
will leave the skin super sensitive for several days. The
Laser will give a slight pinching sensation that is easily
tolerable.
Furthermore, the LightSheer™ Laser is equipped with ChillTip
technology. The ChillTip cools the skin being treated,
making the experience even less painful.
Q: Any precautions to take before and after a Laser
treatment?
A: Please avoid the sun 4-6 weeks prior and after
each treatment. Do not remove hairs from the area by
electrolysis, plucking or waxing for 6 weeks prior to a
treatment.
Q: Will the Laser work if my skin is dark?
A: The Laser works best on the people with dark hairs
and a white/pale to light brown/olive skin. Obviously,
someone with fair skin and brown hairs is an ideal
candidate. However, the LightSheer™ Laser does work on those
with dark, tanned, and black skin.
